Thwaps are small, mischievous weasel-like rodents that mainly inhabit gardens and forests. There are three known types of thwaps, which include garden thwaps, mustachioed thwaps and tailhanded thwaps. Thwaps are notorious garden nuisances who eat vegetables such as totatoes.
Trivia[]
- Andrew Peterson has said that he based the garden thwaps off of the squirrels that ate the tomato and strawberry patches in his garden when he was writing the books. The thwaps' name came from a game called "Silent Football" that Peterson and his wife helped with Christian summer camps. The two words known in the game are "schmotus" and "thwap"[2].
- Andrew Peterson said that the idea for the tailhanded thwap came from his son drawing a Thwap with a hand on the end of its tail. Peterson said that it was cute yet creepy[2].
