Official synopsis[]

In a cottage near the edge of the cliffs above the Dark Sea of Darkness live three siblings: Janner, Tink, and Leeli Igiby. The trio unknowingly hold the secret to a lost legend and the Jewels of Anniera. But across the Dark Sea lurks an evil tyrant who plots the destruction of the land.
To survive, the Igibys must flee their home and travel through deadly forests, dark cities, and frozen wastes, pursued relentlessly by monsters (hungry!), the venomous Fangs (poisonous!), and a multitude of villains (scoundrels, trolls, horned hounds, and the like). In this epic battle between good and evil, the intrepid heroes must confront danger and cling to one another in order to fight back the looming shadows that threaten to overtake everything they love.

Main Series[]

On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness[]

On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness is the first book in The Wingfeather Saga. It details the lives of the Igiby family (Janner, Kalmar, and Leeli Igiby, with their mother Nia Igiby and grandfather Podo Helmer) in Glipwood Township, under the oppression of the Fangs of Dang—snake-like creatures with venomous fangs, who serve Gnag the Nameless. At the end of the book, the family flees from Glipwood to escape the Fangs, and the children find out that their last name is really Wingfeather, and that they are part of the royal family of Anniera.

North! Or Be Eaten[]

North! Or Be Eaten tells of the Wingfeather family's escape to the Ice Prairies. In this book it is revealed that Fangs are made from melding humans with animals, and that there are two types of Fangs: Green Fangs (melded with snakes) and Grey Fangs (melded with wolves). Kalmar Wingfeather gets melded with a wolf some time near the middle of the story. At the end of the book, the Wingfeather family sails to the Green Hollows.

The Monster in the Hollows[]

The Monster in the Hollows is a book about the Wingfeather family living in the Green Hollows. The Hollish people are suspicious of Kalmar because he looks like a Fang.

The Warden and the Wolf King[]

The Warden and the Wolf King is the final book in the series. It tells of the defeat of Gnag the Nameless and the restoration of Anniera.

Andrew Peterson started a Kickstarter in 2016, which reached $100,000 in the then-record time of 48 hours. This project funded the first Wingfeather Saga animated content, A Crow for the Carriage. The short film adapted the first half of On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness in 15 minutes and included several new songs, as well as a unique animation style developed by J. Chris Wall, Keith Lango, and Nicholas Kole.

In 2021, Angel Studios approved a Wingfeather Saga television series, and in "testing the waters" for possible investments $100,000 were pledged in under 24 hours. When investment officially opened, the series reached the first episode goal of $1,000,000 in 48 hours, breaking Angel Studios' previous record (on their hit show The Chosen) in half. The production crew includes Andrew Peterson as executive producer and author, J. Chris Wall as executive producer and show-runner, and Keith Lango as the animation director and CG supervisor. The first season has six 30-minute episodes at an industry-standard quality with later seasons planned to have a larger episode count.[1]

To promote investments for the first season, Chris Wall hosted a live-stream every Thursday since the beginning of investments, with guests including Andrew Peterson, Keith Lango, Nicholas Kole, Ellie Holcomb (a singer-songwriter whose song Marvelous Light was inspired by Podo Helmer's character arc in North! or Be Eaten[2]), Skye Peterson (who reprised her rendition of My Love Has Gone Across the Sea from the original short film), Dr. Russel Moore (a long-time supporter of the books and series), and Laure Hittle (who is also known as Madame Sidler, the main contributor to The Wingfeather Saga's website, a reviser that influenced the hardcover editions of the books, and was the discussion moderator on the website when they had a forum for a period of about 5 years).
