The Sins of Scale Raker is the fifth episode of The Wingfeather Saga's third season. It premiered on December 3, 2025 in the Angel Guild.
Synopsis[]
While trying to cross the Dark Sea of Darkness, the Wingfeathers face sea dragons who block their path. Secrets from Podo’s past emerge, an old debt must be forgiven, and Artham reunites with the family and reveals a startling truth about Kalmar.
Plot[]
The sea dragons prevent the Enramere from fleeing, and Yurgen confronts Podo. The latter begs that they show mercy to the others and just kill him. Yurgen prepares to devour Podo, but Leeli quickly steps between them and Yurgen stops, recognising Leeli from the cliffs on Dragon Day. Yurgen summons his daughter, Hulwen, who bears scars across her head, and she drops Podo's leg bone from her mouth. Podo reveals to the others that when he was younger, he used to hunt baby sea dragons for their scales.
A flashback shows younger Podo working alongside a crew to hunt baby sea dragons while all the adult dragons are away from the nest. One group of sailors manage to catch a green sea dragon, which is witnessed by Hulwen. Enraged when she sees blood pouring from the young dragon, she attacks the sailors and frees the baby sea dragon from their clutches. She turns her attention to the ship and attacks it. Podo manages to get on her back and uses makeshift reins to ride her, and he tries to direct her to the front of the ship as she tries to knock him off. The reins break and a hook cuts her eye as she snaps at Podo's leg. Bursting from the ocean, Hulwen and Podo both land on the ship, and Podo soon wakes up to discover his leg gone. Hulwen begins singing a dirge as she lays beside the corpse of a blue baby sea dragon that had been killed earlier, and Podo finally realises his sinful actions.
Back in the present, Yurgen demands Hulwen avenge herself and the many young sea dragons who died by Podo's hands, but seeing Leeli's lame leg, Hulwen refuses, saying that Podo's scars run deeper than hers. Enraged, Yurgen and the other sea dragons prepare to destroy the Enramere. Leeli begins playing Yurgen's Tune which calms the sea dragons, and Yurgen feels deep shame as he recalls the times when he had ruthlessly slaughtered humans. He decides to allow Podo to sail the Dark Sea one last time and the dragons retreat.
In Kimera, the Kimerans celebrate their victory, and Gammon is commended for his cunning. Maraly tells him about the Fork! Factory! and how it holds many children prisoner, saying that they should go and rescue them. Back on the Enramere, the Kimeran sailors spot something in the sky, and when it lands on the ship, they learn it is Artham carrying a small Grey Fang, and Leeli recognises it to be Kalmar.
