The Cloven are either Fangs who were not properly melded, or experimental fangs. The first cloven were created by Ouster Will by melding animal with animal. Gnag the Nameless changed the way that melding worked, and started melding humans with animals. He created armies of humans melded with lizards, wolves, and bats, though used cloven for some purposes, such as carrying him around. Many of the cloven left Castle Throg and developed the city Clovenfast. Often, cloven are melded with bears, birds, and frogs. After the Wingfeather War, Janner Wingfeather sacrificed himself to turn all of the cloven back into humans.
